Jim Corbett National Park is one of India’s oldest and best-known tiger reserves and forms part of the country’s Project Tiger network. The park is known for its forests, grasslands and river landscapes, and for giving visitors a chance to experience wildlife in its natural habitat from designated safari routes.
Safaris in Corbett are operated in specific tourism zones and follow fixed timings and routes decided by the forest department. Visitors can experience the forest mainly through jeep safaris and canter safaris, and in some seasons and areas, elephant rides may also be offered as per prevailing rules. All entries are subject to permits, carrying capacity and safety guidelines, and every visitor is expected to follow the park regulations.
Jeep safaris generally run for about 3–4 hours in the morning and evening and are available in zones such as Bijrani, Garjiya, Jhirna, Dhela, Durgadevi, Sitabani and others, depending on the season and route plan. Canter safaris for day visitors operate in the Dhikala zone and usually last several hours, covering a wider stretch of forest in a shared vehicle. Where permitted, elephant rides are typically shorter experiences conducted in limited areas. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed and depend on season, weather and the natural movement of animals, so guests are encouraged to treat the safari as a nature experience rather than a fixed sighting tour.
